THOMAS TALLIES 14 IN LOSS AT RPI

January 20, 2006

Troy, NY - Freshman Monica Thomas (Sandwich, MA) scored 14 points, her fourth double-digit scoring performance in the past five games, but the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team dropped a 62-40 decision to Rensselaer in Liberty League action on Friday night.

The Golden Knights fell to 4-10 on the season and 0-3 in the Liberty League. Rensselaer improved to 9-4 overall and 3-1. Clarkson looks to get on the Liberty League win board tomorrow when they visit Vassar College.

Shooting only 24 percent in the first half, the Golden Knights struggled against the Rensselaer defense. The Red Hawks shot 48.1 percent in the first half (13-for-27) and took a commanding 17-point halftime lead, 33-16.

The shooting woes continued in the second half for Clarkson, but the Red Hawks did not fair much better. However, Clarkson's 25.9 percent from the floor was far from enough to overcome the lead that Rensselaer had accumulated in the opening 20 minutes.

Thomas scored a game-high 14 points and added six rebounds to lead Clarkson while Sarah Wesner (Sidney, NY) added 7 points, 10 rebounds and 5 steals. Erika Fritjofson (East Barre, VT) added nine points and six rebounds for Clarkson.

Tory Lyons led the Red Hawks with 13 points and Whitney Coleman added 12 points for RPI. Rensselaer outrebounded the Knights 45-34.
