Potsdam, NY – Struggling both from the field and the free throw line, the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team fell in a hole early against St. Lawrence as the Golden Knights dropped a 61-43 decision to the Saints in Liberty League action Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights dropped to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in the Liberty League while St. Lawrence remained unbeaten in conference. Both teams return to action this weekend when they host Vassar and Rensselaer.

The Golden Knights struggled to beat the Saints’ full-court pressure in the first half, as the team was able to score just one field goal in the first 11:50 of the game, falling behind 16-3 early on. Though the Knights recovered slightly, St. Lawrence continued to control the pace of play, forcing Clarkson into 15 turnovers. The Saints shot 14-for-29 and the Knights made three of their 19 attempts. Andrea Muszynski led the Saints with seven points and five rebounds in just 11 minutes, while Vanessa Westcott (Parish, NY) scored eight points, participating in all 20 minutes of the half.

In the second half, Clarkson began to produce offensively, matching their point production of the first half in less than five minutes of the second period. Unfortunately for Clarkson, the Saints matched the scoring barrage and maintained their double-digit lead as the Knights couldn’t reduce the St. Lawrence advantage below 16 points.

The Saints received a balanced scoring attack as Christie Herbst scored a team-high 11 points in just nine minutes off the bench. Muszynski closed with nine points and seven rebounds for St. Lawrence.

Vanessa Westcott led all scorers with 14 points, including a 4-for-7 performance from beyond the 3-point arc. Adrienne Juby (Cold Spring, NY) also added eight points in 17 minutes off the bench.

Clarkson shot just 6-for-19 from the free throw line.
