Potsdam, NY - It has been nearly two years since she last scored a goal, and Alicia Chace's (Cortland, NY) goal could not have come at a better time as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team ended a five-game winless streak with a 1-0 blanking of crosstown rival Potsdam State on Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 2-7-2 overall while the Bears dropped to 7-6-1. Clarkson has the weekend off, but looks to start a winning streak against Cazenovia on Monday afternoon at Clarkson Field.

Chace's goalless-streak was not because of her inability to put the ball in the back of the net, but her change in position as she has spent the last two seasons playing on the defensive end. It was her first goal since scoring against St. John Fisher on October 15, 2005.

The shot came in the 25th minute when the the Knights were awarded a corner kick, one of seven they would have on the afternoon. Senior Catie Reed (Lafayette, NY), who also had a little piece of history on Tuesday, sent a long shot to the far post on the corner where it found the foot of Chace, who put the Knights up 1-0 with a full-volley shot in front. Reed's assist was the second of the season and helped her tie Clarkson's career record for assists at 16, knotting up with Jen Rokosz and Chris Rovegno, who both graduated in the early 1990s.

Meagan Emlaw (Norfolk, NY) needed to make just one save for the shutout for Clarkson, her first solo blanking of the season. Sarah Casey made eight saves for Potsdam.

Clarkson owned a 11-5 advantage in shot and a 7-1 edge in corners.
