Knights Break Winless Skid with 1-0 Win Over RPI

Alix Petitti scored the lone goal in the win at Rensselaer
Troy, NY – Sophomore Alix Petitti (Amsterdam, NY) scored the only goal of the game as the Clarkson Women’s Soccer team held on for a 1-0 victory over Rensselaer, at Renwyck Field and ECAV Stadium.

With the win the Golden Knights improved to 3-9-2 overall and 1-5-0 in Liberty League action, while the Engineers fall to 4-10-1 and 1-5-0.

With the game scoreless in the 18th minute, lightning and thunder delayed the contest 45 minutes and forced a change in venue from Renwyck Field to ECAV Stadium. Almost immediately after the restart at ECAV, Petitti was able to finish a rebound from inside the six-yard area for the only goal of the game.

The Engineers had a number of close calls in the second half, including a shot by sophomore Catherine Harvey in the 61st minute that was cleared off the goal line by Clarkson senior Brittany Monroe (Massena, NY).

In the 70th minute, Rensselaer freshman Shannon Maguire blasted a free kick from 40-yards out that went inches over the crossbar. Nine minutes later a potential goal off a header by Harvey was disallowed on an offside call.

RPI outshot the Golden Knights 18-9 overall, including 10-4 in the final 45 minutes. Clarkson junior goalie Stephanie Collins (Colton, NY) made six saves, while freshman Melissa Pinsonneault came up with two stops at the other end.
