Carey Turner looks for a rebound against St. Lawrence - Chris Lenney

Potsdam, NY – Despite the eighth double-double of the season by junior Michelle Reddinger (Baldwinsville, NY), the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team came up just short against St. Lawrence, falling to the Saints 65-56 in Liberty League action Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 6-13 overall and 1-7 in the Liberty League, and will take on Skidmore and Union this weekend to close out a five-game road trip. St. Lawrence held on to first place in the league, improving to 14-4 and 7-1.

The fouls came fast and furious in the first half as both teams were nearly in the bonus within seven minutes, which helped both offensively as neither team was hitting much from the field. In fact, the Saints started off 1-for-14 from the floor before finally getting the lid off with just over eight minutes to go. The Knights led 15-9 before that bucket as the Saints ended the half on a 17-8 run, including a jumper from the corner as time was close to expiring.

Junior forward Michelle Reddinger led the Knights with eight points and four rebounds in the first 20 minutes as Clarkson spread out its offense among four starters. Katie Goldberg (Stowe, VT) added six points while Sierra Noles (Averill Park, NY) and Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) each contributed four. For St. Lawrence, Abby Stanton had 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals.

After the Knights pulled within one to start the second half, the two teams traded runs, with St. Lawrence earning a second one near the end of the half which proved to be the difference in the contest. Early on, the Saints went on an 18-4 run to move out to a 15-point lead, but Clarkson responded with a 14-3 run midway through the half to cut Saints’ advantage to just four points. Some solid inside play turned things around for St. Lawrence, however, as the Saints responded with a 9-2 run to push their lead back to double digits, and the final minutes saw the two teams trading points as Clarkson attempted to crawl back into the contest.

Reddinger finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Turner had 14 points and 9 rebounds. For St. Lawrence, Katie Palmer scored 15 of her 20 points in the second half, while Stanton contributed 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 steals.
