Junior Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) scored two goals and assisted on another, and sophomore Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) turned aside eight shots as the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team won its second straight game with a 6-0 shutout over Union before 184 fans at Cheel Arena on Friday afternoon.
Sixteen different Golden Knights recorded a point in the win as the Green and Gold improved their record to 15-9-5 overall and to 9-5-3 in ECAC Hockey. Clarkson hosts Rensselaer in a 2:00 p.m. contest at Cheel on Saturday afternoon.
The Knights tallied two goals in each period over Union to improve its all-time record against the Dutchwomen to 12-0. Clarkson has shutout Union (2-24-0, 0-16-1) in each of their last five meetings.
Sophomore Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) started the scoring 6:31 into the first on a high shot from along the right boards. Senior defenseman Courtney O’Connor (Chicago, IL) and freshman blueline partner Katelyn Ptolemy (Dinsmore, SASK) assisted. With seven seconds left in its first power play of the game, Selina connected off assists from defensemen, senior Kimberly McKenney (Smiths Falls, ONT) and junior Tegan Schroeder (Lumsden, SASK) to put the Knights on top 2-1 at 15:53.
At 4:49 of the second stanza, junior Ashleigh Moorehead (Clinton, NY), positioned at the top of the crease, redirected a pass from McKenney for her first goal of the year. Freshman Kali Gillanders (Kyle, SASK) also assisted. Selina made it 2-0 with the Knights’ second shorthanded goal of the year when she knocked in a rebound off of Waldie’s shot at 10:10.
Sophomore Caitlin Oleksa (Battle Creek, MI) started the third period scoring her first career goal, redirecting a shot from the point by junior defenseman Carlee Eusepi (Oakville, ONT) at 3:07. Sophomore Daris Tendler (Verwood, SASK) also assisted.
Freshman Juan Baribeau (Amos, QUE) closed out the scoring with her team-high 17th goal of the season at 11:28 with Selina and senior Marie-Jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke, QUE) assisting.
Clarkson out shot Union 46-8. Dahm recorded her fourth shutout of the season and ninth career whitewash. The Knights' went 1-of-3 on the power play and killed off all four of the Dutchwomen's man-advantage opportunities.
