Saints Second Chances Send Knights to 61-47 Loss at SLU

Canton, NY - Twenty-two offensive rebounds gave St. Lawrence several extra opportunities at the rim, and the Saints took advantage of them as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team was downed 61-47 in Liberty League action Tuesday night at Burkman Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights remained winless in league contests at 0-5 and fell to 3-12 on the season. St. Lawrence improved its slate to 12-3 and 3-2 in conference games. Clarkson travels to Hamilton and William Smith this weekend.

Clarkson stuck with the Saints in the first half, enjoying a six-point lead early on. After St. Lawrence took a three-point lead (23-20), Clarkson buried three of its next four free throw attempts to tie the score up at 23-23 with 2:29 remaining. However, the Knights couldn't convert any chances in the final minutes, while the Saints used a 7-0 run to take a 30-23 lead into intermission.

In the second half, Clarkson got back to within five points, but every time the Knights looked ready to break through, the Saints had an answer with their superior size on the interior. The height of St. Lawrence's frontcourt was a crucial part of its 55-41 edge on the glass, with 22 of those rebounds on the offensive end. The Saints ended up taking 10 more shots in the game than Clarkson, despite a virtually even amount of turnovers (23-22).

Chrissy Scanlon (Queensbury, NY) had 13 points and 9 rebounds in 24 minutes to lead the Golden Knights, while Noelle Miller (Hamburg, NY) added 11 points, including a 7-for-7 performance from the free throw line. Katherine Edgerton led St. Lawrence with 17 points and 9 rebounds, and Kelly Legg contributed 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 blocks.
