Potsdam, NY – A 24-5 run to open the second half sealed any doubts of Tuesday nights’ game between St. Lawrence and the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team as the Golden Knights fell 74-40 in Liberty League action at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 2-11 on the season and 0-5 in conference games, while St. Lawrence remained unbeaten in the league at a perfect 4-0 and improved to 10-3 overall. Clarkson closes out its five-game homestand this weekend when the team faces RIT and William Smith.

St. Lawrence started off the game by making its first five field goal attempts, racing out to a solid lead in the early going. However, once the Saints started to cool off, the Knights were able to chip away at the lead by dominating the boards (22-13). Clarkson gained numerous second chances, with 13 offensive rebounds, but still shot 25.8% percent from the floor to stay in the game. A key to the low shooting percentage was St. Lawrence’s defense in the paint as the team totaled eight blocked shots, including six by Kelly Legg. Thanks to some key plays down the stretch, St. Lawrence turned a six-point lead into a 12-point advantage at the break.

Ashley Loggins (Albany, NY) led all scorers with 14 points, shooting 4-for-8 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Legg led the Saints with 11 points and six blocks and Allison Cady chipped in eight points and three steals in the first 20 minutes.

The Saints continued their run in the opening portion of the second half, pushing their advantage above 20 points before Jovanna Snead (Poughkeepsie, NY) finally broke through for the Knights, hitting a 3-pointer with five minutes expired from the clock. St. Lawrence opened the half with a 24-5 run, and limited the Saints second-chance opportunities throughout the second half, holding Clarkson to just two offensive rebounds.

Loggins finished with 20 points and eight rebounds in 33 minutes for Clarkson, with Snead chipping in eight points and Isabella Esposito (Essex, VT) adding nine rebounds. For St. Lawrence, Kelly Legg had 13 points, nine rebounds and seven blocks, while Allison Cady finished as the top scorer for the Saints with 16 points. Lauren Quattrocchi also scored nine points, all on 3-point field goals.
