Canton, NY - A strong start in the second half saw the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team nearly erase a significant halftime deficit against St. Lawrence, but the Saints rediscovered their form and clinched a 69-47 Liberty League victory over the Golden Knights Tuesday night at Burkman Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights saw their record fall to 2-15 overall and 0-9 in the Liberty League, while St. Lawrence remained atop the conference standings at 14-4 overall and 8-1 in Liberty League contests. Clarkson will take on Vassar College and Bard College this weekend in southern New York before returning for a three-game homestand in 10 days.

Clarkson started off the game slow, with Ashley Loggins (Albany, NY) making the team's first basket at 16:51. While that isn't particularly late, the Knights would not score again for over six minutes as St. Lawrence built a double-digit advantage. The Knights briefly scaled back to within eight points a few minutes later, but once again the Saints went on a 13-2 run to create a sizeable advantage, taking a 22-point lead (39-17) into the locker room.

Virtually nothing went right for Clarkson in the first half as the team shot 21.7% (5-for-23) and the Saints were hitting at 61.5% (16-for-26). However, the Knights quickly jumped back into the contest in the second half and a Melissa Bogart (Voorheesville, NY) 3-pointer with under 14 minutes to go brought Clarkson back to within single digits at 46-37. At the midway point of the second half, a jumper from Colleen Daley (Orchard Park, NY) had the Knights down by just 11, but a 12-0 run by the Saints pushed their advantage back to over 20 points and effectively ended Clarkson's hopes of making a complete comeback.

Sophomore guard Leighann Tomita (Cerritos, CA) had a team-high 15 points to go along with nine rebounds to lead Clarkson and classmate Jovanna Snead (Poughkeepsie, NY) tossed in eight points. Kara McDuffee had 21 points to lead the Saints, and added in 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals. Lauren Quattrocchi contributed 15 points for the Saints and Cassie St. Hilaire also produced 10 points and seven rebounds.
