Loggins Sets Career-Highs in Win Over Oswego

Junior Ashley Loggins (Albany, NY) recorded a double-double in the first half en route to career-highs in both points and rebounds as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team started the new year on the right foot with a 79-58 win over Oswego State Friday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 6-2 on the season and will take on Hamilton College on Saturday afternoon in Clinton, NY. Oswego fell to 3-5 overall in 2014-15.

Clarkson jumped out to a modest early advantage (12-8) in the first few minutes, but Oswego scored six points in under a minute to claim a 14-12 edge. Back-to-back 3-pointers from Cara Manfredi (Glastonbury, CT) helped Clarkson regain the lead, but once again the Lakers rallied to take the lead 22-21 with 8:18 remaining. That run, however, was the last time the Lakers would enjoy the lead. Loggins scored at 8:03, beginning a 12-0 run which was capped off by a Madison Shea (Clifton Park, NY) make at the 6:00-mark. From there, Clarkson pushed its lead to as many as 19 points before settling at a 17-point halftime advantage, 45-28.

Loggins produced a double-double in the first half with 21 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with three steals, and Manfredi tossed in 16 points, giving the duo 37 of the team's 45 points in the opening 20 minutes. Rachael Windhausen had seven points and three boards for Oswego, while Heather Hebert added in six points and five boards.

Oswego chipped away at the Clarkson lead in the early going, reducing the margin to as few as six points after a Windhausen lay in at the 13:24 mark made the score 51-45, ending an 13-2 run by the Lakers. Although it took a few more minutes for Clarkson to break out of its offensive-funk, Oswego could get no closer than six points. After free throws from Alisha Jacobs made the score 58-51 at 7:42, Clarkson put forth an offensive push in the next few minutes which would decide the game. Five different players scored in the next four minutes as the Golden Knights enjoyed a 14-2 run which iced the game in their favor.

Loggins finished with a career-high 31 points, her first collegiate 30-point game, and also tied the single-game program record with a career-best 20 rebounds. The last player to produce 20 rebounds in a game for Clarkson was Jen Martin in the second half of the 2002-03 season. Manfredi also nearly recorded a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing eight boards. Freshman Devin Sorell (Hannibal, NY) came off the bench to score 11 points.

For Oswego, Windhausen finished with 15 points and seven boards, while Heather Hebert produced a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Clarkson enjoyed a solid advantage on the glass with a 54-35 edge in rebounds.
