CU Women's Basketball Preview - at Elmira College (12/1)

For the first time in more than 10 days the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team will take to the hardwood as they begin a three-game stretch to close out the first semester of action. The Golden Knights will take on Elmira College on Tuesday, the first of three games in the course of five days.

The Golden Knights enjoyed an 84-69 victory against Elmira last year, only the second time that Clarkson has claimed victory against the Soaring Eagles in 13 all-time meetings. Ashley Loggins had a dobule-double in last year's win with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Loggins' double-double against Elmira was nothing new, and the senior forward has continued to post performances along those lines in 2015. Through four games she has four double-doubles and is averaging 16.8 points and 12.0 rebounds per game, both figures which rank in the top five in the Liberty League. She is also shooting 48.2% from the floor (third in the conference) and leads the league by a wide margin in steals with 22 (5.5 spg). Sophomore guard Devin Sorell had a career-high 33 points in her last game and ranks sixth in the league with 16.3 points per game. Sorell tied a school record with seven 3-pointers in that contest and not surprisingly leads the league with 11 makes this year. Classmate Madison Shea is also averaging 7.8 points and 2.5 steals per contest while junior Stephanie Grobe is contributing 7.0 points, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game. Junior Alyssia Marsal is also kicking in 5.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in the early going.

Elmira has reversed Clarkson's 3-1 start with just one win in its four games this year, picking up a victory over Hilbert College in its last time out. Danielle Cleary is the team's top performer so far, averaging 20.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, but is shooting only 29.6% from the field so far. Cleary has made up for her deficiency from the field by making the most of her chances from the free throw line with 34 makes in 40 tries (85.0%). Her points from the line account for 40.9% of her scoring so far. Lindsay Heaton is the team's second leading scorer with 11.8 points per game while also averaging a team-best 4.3 assists per contest. Emily Green is shooting 46.4% from the field for 9.8 points per game and Meghan Loya is averaging 7.0 points and 9.8 boards per contest.
