CU Women's Basketball Preview - vs. St. Lawrence (1/12)

Fresh off a two-game sweep this past weekend, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team will look to continue one streak while ending another when it faces St. Lawrence University on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Knights (7-4 overall, 2-2 Liberty League) have won two straight games to move back to .500 in conference play, and St. Lawrence enters the game with an 8-2 overall mark and a 2-0 mark in the Liberty league. Clarkson trails in the all-time series against the Saints with 16 wins in 81 games, having last beaten St. Lawrence in the 1993-94 season.

Sophomore Devin Sorell enjoyed an outstanding weekend for the Golden Knights, scoring 41 points in two games and shooting 10-for-16 from beyond the 3-point arc. For the year, she is averaging 16.4 points per game (third in the Liberty League) and leads the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (40.7%), 3-pointers made (33) and free throw percentage (80.6%). Senior Ashley Loggins, averaging 14.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.8 steals per game, is looking to edge up a spot on the all-time leaderboard on Tuesday as she needs only three points to move into third all-time in scoring at Clarkson. One more basket by Loggins will also make her just the fourth player in program history to score 500 field goals.

Clarkson is getting 87.4% of its offense from the starting five this year, but fortunately that scoring has come from different spots all season. Over the weekend, Alyssia Marsal tied her career-high with 12 points on Friday against Bard, while Madison Shea tossed in 19 for a new career-high on Saturday when Clarkson beat Vassar. The Golden Knights have also enjoyed many open looks thanks to a tough full-court pressure that causes many turnovers. Clarkson leads the league in turnover margin (+4.73) for the second straight year, thanks in large part to a league-leading 13.36 steals per game.

Like Clarkson, St. Lawrence also has a very balanced offense. Caroline Dalton leads the team in scoring at 11.3 points per game and is also the top rebounder with 7.2 boards per contest. Cara Waterson is contributing 10.6 points per game and Jenny Scudder is averaging 9.1 points per game coming off the bench. Senior point guard Lauren Quattrocchi has been a steady distributor for the Saints, averaging 6.7 assists per game, which is easily the best mark in the conference. Quattrocchi has produced at least four assists in all 10 games for St. Lawrence and has also averaged 7.5 points and 2.4 steals per game.

The Saints also lead the conference in 3-pointers made per game (7.0), 3-point field goal percentage (34.7%), 3-point field goal percentage defense (21.9%) and free throw percentage (71.7%).
