CU Women's Soccer Ties Union 1-1

A second half goal helped the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team earn a 1-1 tie with visiting Union on Saturday afternoon on Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson is now 4-9-1 on the season with a 0-5-1 Liberty League record while Union is 6-3-4 overall and 2-0-3 in the conference.

Union took a first half lead on a great individual effort. After receiving a pass from Katie Monahan, Sydney Keane uncorked a 25-yard shot that flew into the upper left corner of the goal. That goal was the only score of the first period.

For the second day in a row, Clarkson ratcheted up the pressure in the second half. However, unlike on Friday, this time it paid off. Courtney Black came close to tying the game in the 49th minute when she hit a long shot, but Kelsey Hartsoe was able to tip it over the Union crossbar. The breakthrough three minutes later though. Black found space on the left side of the Union box and hit a hard, rising shot that beat the Hartsoe to tie the game at one.

Both teams had chances to break the deadlock in the remainder of the second half and overtimes, but neither team could direct a shot on frame as the two goalies were forced into just two saves in the final 55 minutes of action.

Union held a 14-6 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Elyse Green made four saves for Clarkson while Hartsoe had two stops for the Dutchwomen.

Clarkson will take a brief break from conference opponents by traveling to Canton for a game on Tuesday, October 18th.
