CU Women's Lax Runs Away with 20-5 Win Over Birmingham-Southern

Memphis, TN – For the first time in four seasons the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team amassed 20 goals in a game, toppling Birmingham-Southern 20-5 in a non-league game Tuesday evening in Tennessee.

The Golden Knights improved to 3-1 on the season with their third consecutive win, while Birmingham-Southern had its five-game winning streak come to a halt, dropping to 7-2. Clarkson will face Rhodes College on Thursday.

Tuesday's contest marked the first time since early 2012 that the Golden Knights scored 20 goals in a game (SUNY Canton, 2012), and it was only the eighth time in school history that Clarkson produced 20 goals or more.

Clarkson scored the first three goals of the game in the first 143 seconds of the game, but the Panthers responded with three goals to tie the game at 22:41. The two teams traded goals again in the next three minutes, but Taylor Collins scored at the 18:10 mark to give the Knights a 5-4 lead, an advantage that the team would never relinquish. In fact, Clarkson shut out the Panthers for the remainder of the half, and maintained its momentum in the first 10 minutes of the second half, rattling off 12 straight goals to take a 16-4 lead. When Birmingham-Southern ended the run at 16:21 of the second half, the clock was still running and the Knights cruised to the win by scoring the final four goals of the contest.

Clarkson dominated in all facets of the game, outshooting the Panthers 34-6, winning the fight for groundballs 17-8, earning 16 of the 25 draws, and forcing 17 turnovers while committing just seven of its own.

Ashley Flick continued her hot run with eight points, scoring seven goals and recording an assist to go along with three groundballs. Christine Wright added seven points on four goals and three assists and Taylor Collins recorded five points on a pair of goals and three assists. Casey Shannon also scored three times and Jaid Baytos led the team with five draws. For the Panthers, Natalie Daniel scored twice and had three draws and Amanda Amerson had two points with a goal and an assist. Chloe Massoni made 11 saves for the Panthers.
