Knights See Five-Game Unbeaten Run End at William Smith

Geneva, NY – A five-game unbeaten streak for the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team came to an end on Saturday as the Golden Knights dropped a 4-0 decision to sixth-ranked William Smith.

The Golden Knights fell to 6-3-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the Liberty League, while William Smith extended its winning streak to seven, moving to 10-1-0 and 5-0-0 in conference.

The Herons opened the scoring in the 24th minute when freshman Julia Keogh buried her fourth goal of the year. She was on the receiving end of an Evie Manning crossing pass. Manning dribbled down the right side and put a cross into the box where Keogh collected the pass and drilled a shot into the back of the net. William Smith doubled its lead just over five minutes later when senior Theresa Lohr bent a free kick into the upper left corner of the goal.

The Herons extended their lead to three goals in the 57th minute when Manning collected the ball outside of the box and dribbled towards the right post. With the defenders closing in on her, she sent a cross cage pass to Megan Barwick, who collected the ball and sent a low shot into the net. Manning scored a goal of her own in the 65th minute. Barwick drew a foul deep in the offensive zone and sent the free kick into the box. Manning used her head to redirect the ball past the diving keeper.

Junior Veronica Romines played the opening 69 minutes in goal for William Smith. Junior Kaileen Murray came in for the final 21 minutes. Neither goalie faced a shot.  Elyse Green finished with six saves in 90 minutes in goal for Clarkson.

The Herons finished with a 17-1 lead in shots and a 10-3 edge in corners.
