Knights Offense Muted in Defeat at 13th-Ranked St. John Fisher

Rochester, NY – Limited on possessions due to shortcomings on draws and groundballs, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team suffered a 14-1 loss against 13th-ranked St. John Fisher on Friday afternoon.

Clarkson fell to 0-1 on the season but looks to get on the winning track when the team faces SUNY Canton on Saturday, March 20th. The Cardinals remained unbeaten with their second win in three days.

Despite not scoring until early in the second period, Clarkson kept things close in the first half by limiting St. John Fisher's early opportunities. The Cardinals scored a man-up goal in the opening five minutes, but were otherwise kept off the scoreboard until midway through the half. St. John Fisher converted three free-position shots in the opening 30 minutes, including one with less than two minutes to go, for a 5-0 lead at the break.

Sophomore Julia Lavarnway got the Knights going in the second half when Sydney Roderick found her at the 26:28 mark to make the score 5-1, but Fisher steadily added to their score over the final 20 minutes, changing a 7-1 lead into a 14-1 victory over the last third of the game.

St. John Fisher controlled the ball for a significant portion of the game, winning 14 of the 15 draws and snagging 25 of the 34 groundballs in the contest. The Cardinals ended up with a 28-5 edge in shots, including a 20-5 lead in shots on goal.

Sarah Duhaime was busy on defense for Clarkson, winning four groundballs and causing four turnovers. For Fisher, Sydney DeGirolamo had four points with a goal and three assists, Brittany Halpin had two goals and an assist, and Alyssa Sabotka found the back of the net three times. Logan Chase had five groundballs and three draws to go along with two caused turnovers.
