CU Women's Basketball Preview - at Skidmore/Rensselaer (12/1-2)

Although the season is only a few weeks old, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball begins Liberty League play this weekend as the team travels to take on Skidmore College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The Series: Both Skidmore and RPI swept the season series against the Knights last year. Five different players scored in double figures over the course of two games for Skidmore's two wins while Nicole DaPra had two double-doubles for the Engineers. Clarkson is 24-40 all-time against Skidmore, having lost five straight, while RPI has won 58 of 80 meetings against the Knights with seven straight victories.

Key Stats for Clarkson (2-3, 0-0 Liberty League): The Golden Knights were held below 60 points for the first time in 2023-24 on Tuesday against SUNY Potsdam. Cassidy Dumont has been a consistent scorer for the Knights, averaging 16.8 points per game, having scored between 15 and 19 points in each of Clarkson's five contests thus far. A year ago, Dumont averaged 20.0 points per game against the Thoroughbreds and had one of her biggest scoring efforts of the season versus RPI when she produced 28 points on 12-for-23 shooting in the second meeting between the two teams.

Key Stats for Skidmore (4-2, 0-0 Liberty League): The Thoroughbreds boast the top defense in the Liberty League thus far, allowing opponents just 45.2 points per game on 32.3% shooting from the floor. Julia Blanck ranks second in the conference in rebounding at 8.8 boards per game and is in the top 10 in scoring at 13.2 points per game while shooting 59.2% from the floor. Andi Levitz leads the league in 3-pointers made (14) and is shooting 50.0% from beyond the arc to average 10.2 points per contest.

Key Stats for Rensselaer (3-3, 0-0 Liberty League): While Skidmore leads the conference in defense, RPI isn't far behind, ranking second in both field goal defense (34.5%) and points allowed (54.7 ppg). The Engineers spread the minutes out, with only four players averaging more than 20 minutes per game and Siena Smith leading the way at 25.2 minutes per contest. Smith averages 10.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per contest. Nicole DaPra, who averaged 16.0 points and 14.5 rebounds per game against Clarkson last season, is producing 8.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game in the early going of 2023-24.
