Geneva, NY – Junior Drew Reigelsperger of the Clarkson University Cross Country team won the Cross Country-Only Championships for the second straight year, headlining the Golden Knights performance in the race Saturday afternoon at Seneca Lake State Park.

Clarkson's women opened the day with a second-place showing, finishing with 33 points, just behind William Smith (25) and ahead of Keuka (94), and SUNY Canton (103). The Golden Knights' men came close to sweeping the field with four runners in the top five, and easily took the team title. Clarkson had 20 points, ahead of Hobart (53), Paul Smiths (78), Keuka (116), and SUNY Canton (122).

Reigelsperger became Clarkson's latest repeat winner at the CCOC, finishing in 26 minutes, 6.6 seconds to pace the field of 78 runners. It was the fastest time at the event since another Clarkson runner, Kevin Cronin, went for 26:02.0 in 2019. Reigelsperger won the 8000-meter event by 24 seconds and roughly 30 seconds ahead of his teammate James Lynch. The sophomore took third overall in 26:37.4 and was followed by classmates Matthew Clarner and Frank Consolazio. Clarner was fourth in 26:44.9 and Consolazio placed fifth in 26:48.6. Finley Knappe rounded out the Golden Knights' team score by taking ninth in 27:30.1. Had Knappe faltered, Jack Zieber was 11th in 27:47.4 and Spencer Reese was 12th in 27:15.5. Clarkson also saw Kaleb Swartley (14th) and Brady Krenzer (15th) inside the top 20.

Only four complete teams competed in the CCOC on the women's side, and it came down to the fifth runner for the title. Clarkson had four of the top nine runners overall, while William Smith had the runner-up and four of the top 10 overall. Alas, the Herons fifth runner crossed in 12th place and Clarkson's took 19th to decide the team title. Gianna Capoccia finished third overall with a time of 24:27.8 over the course of the 6000-meter course, and it was another full minute before any other runner crossed the line. Janneke Baks was next for the Knights, placing seventh overall in 26:04.6 and only two-tenths of a second later it was Skylar Francis in eighth at 26:04.8. Meagan Speizer then took ninth in 26:20.6 as Clarkson's fourth runner, and Elizabeth Kraynak ended up in 19th in 28:32.9. Any of Clarkson's remaining runners could have placed fifth for the Knights to take second place in the team scoring.
