Knights Split Dual Meet at SLU

Canton, NY – Both Casey Everett and Gavin Stuhler won a pair of starts and Gavin Cibelli and Evelyn Vieira each won both dives as the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team split with St. Lawrence University on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Knights' men claimed a 181-43 victory over the Saints, while Clarkson's women were just short of matching the win, falling 123-108. Clarkson is back in the pool on Saturday at home against Oswego State.

Casey Everett won both of his distance events, taking the top spot in the 1000 freestyle (10:25.18) and later in the 500 freestyle (5:05.04), while Stuhler won the sprint freestyles, hitting the pad first in the 50 freestyle (22.62) and then the 100 freestyle (50.12). Joining Everett and Stuhler as individual winners were four other Clarkson swimmers. Evan Paneras won the 100 butterfly by nearly five seconds with a time of 53.25 and Mason Cartier took the 100 backstroke by almost four-and-a-half seconds (54.90). Owen White claimed a victory in the 200 individual medley (2:03.95) and Andrew Sammons rounded out Clarkson's first-place finishers by taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.48.

Clarkson's 200 medley relay opened the meet with a victory at 1:40.10, thanks to the grouping of Cartier, Matthew Sitarek, Paneras, and Andrew Sypko. The Knights' 200 freestyle relay also won in 1:34.09 thanks to Aiden Spoors, Sean Finnerty, White, and Stuhler.

Gavin Cibelli also picked up wins in both the 3-meter dive (228.16) and the 1-meter dive (221.03) and on the women's side Evelyn Vieira took the 1-meter with 204.24 points and the 3-meter with 202.95 points.

Clarkson's women closed out the day with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, edging the Saints' top team by just 0.07 seconds in 1:49.57. Natasha Hurff, Dani McDonald, Abigail Szyprowski, and Kirsten Isles combined for the win.

The lone individual winner for the Knights, outside of Vieira as a diver, was Natasha Hurff as she finished first in the 500 freestyle in 5:37.92. Clarkson had a number of runner-up finishes as well. Hurff took second in the 200 freestyle (2:10.18), Paige Davis was a close second in the 200 individual medley (2:27.09), McDonald was second in the 100 butterfly (1:08.29), Szyprowski was another near winner in the 100 freestyle (59.45), and Robin Weber took second in the 100 backstroke (1:10.04).
