The Clarkson University Men's Basketball team returns to action early in 2026, making the trip to Plattsburgh State to take on the Cardinals in a non-league matchup.

The Series: The two teams last met in the 2023-24 season as Clarkson emerged with a 75-69 win at Alumni Gymnasium. Plattsburgh State holds a 28-25 all-time advantage in the series with in part due to a seven game win streak between 2009-2020. 


Key Stats for Clarkson (5-4, 0-3 Liberty League): The Golden Knights eked out a 75-73 win versus Alfred State on December 15th, taking care of the ball extremely well with just three turnovers, a season-low. Clarkson is shooting 44% from the field and 32% from three but struggling a bit from the charity stripe with a 66% mark. The trio of Nate Abernethy (13.9 ppg, 49% field goal percentage), Braeden Burns (15.8 ppg, 5.9 rebounds per game, 2.8 assists per game)  and Steve DeRegis (13.4 ppg, 2.8 assists per game) continue to lead the team in most statistical categories.


Key Stats for Plattsburgh State (4-3, 2-0 SUNYAC): The Cardinals earned two SUNYAC wins over Fredonia and Buffalo State in the conference opening weekend on December 5th and 6th. Prior to that the team was handed three straight losses in the form of St. Lawrence (79-87, OT), Union (73-80) and Middlebury (89-92). Reem Welch averages 25 points per game, which sees him tied for 8th-best in the nation, while grabbing 9.6 rebounds over 36.7 minutes per contest. Elijah Morris adds 12.0 points per game while Irwayne Conneell Jr. adds 12.0 points per game of his own along with 15 blocks.
