Knights Drop Another Close Men's Hockey Game at Colgate

Tight games between the Clarkson University Hockey team and Colgate University are standard fare, and Friday's game in Hamilton, NY was no different as the Raiders edge the Golden Knights 2-1 in ECAC Hockey action.

Once again goal-scoring woes in league play hindered Clarkson's chance to pick up its first ECAC Hockey win of the season. The Knights, who have only scored five goals in six conference games, fall to 0-4-2 in the standings and 7-5-2 overall.

The Green and Gold will close out their Central NY road trip when they face off at 14th-ranked Cornell at Lynah Rink in Ithaca on Saturday at 7:00 p.m., their final game before the Holiday Tournament in late December.

The last eight games between the Knights and Raiders (5-10-1, 2-5-1) have been decided by one goal-or-less, and Colgate gained the victory on Friday with a power-play tally midway through the final stanza.

At 12:36, the Raiders' leading scorer, Tyson Spink connected on the man-advantage for the game-winner, extending Colgate's unbeaten streak over Clarkson at Starr Rink to nine games (6-0-3).

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Raiders took the lead at 13:14 of the middle frame when Darcy Murphy capitalized on a Clarkson turnover in the offensive end, and scored all alone in front of the Knights' senior goaltender Greg Lewis.

The Knights battled back and just over four minutes later, senior Todd Christian finished off a pass out of the corner by freshman Marly Quince to tie the game at 17:34 on his second goal of the season.

Colgate outshot Clarkson 30-26. Lewis finished with 28 saves. Charlie Finn posted 25 stops for the Raiders.

Clarkson went scoreless on its only power-play opportunity of the night and killed off three of the Raiders' four man-advantage chances.
