Reigelsperger Takes Third at Hamilton Invitational

Clinton, NY – Drew Reigelsperger and Gianna Capoccia once again led the way for the Clarkson University Cross Country team as the Golden Knights returned to action for the first time in three weeks at the Hamilton Invitational.

The Golden Knights' men placed second in the field of seven teams with 52 points, trailing Hamilton (23), but ahead of Morrisville State (84), Utica (133), Onondaga Community College (135), Hartwick (159), and SUNY Poly (178). The Clarkson women were third out of six squads with 81 points, behind Hamilton (23) and just shy of Utica (77) while ahead of Morrisville State (88), Hartwick (97), and SUNY Poly (175). Clarkson will be back next weekend, competing in the Cross Country-Only Championships, hosted by Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

Reigelsperger was only 17.5 seconds off the pace set by the leader of the pack, finishing third out of 80 runners with a time of 26 minutes, 4.2 seconds over the course of 8000-meters. Matthew Clarner placed 10th overall in the field and was the second Golden Knight to cross the finish line, ending his run in 26:40.1 Frank Consolazio followed in 14th place in 26:57.6 and James Lynch also found himself in the top 20 in 17th with a time of 27:19.6. Clarkson's next three runners were just outside the top 20, but still in the top 25. Finley Knappe rounded out Clarkson's team score by taking 21st in 27:47.9. Spencer Reese was next in 22nd in 27:51.4 and Jack Zieber raced to a 25th place finish with a time of 28:09.7.

On the women's side, Capoccia was within striking distance of the 20-minute barrier for the 5000-meter event, finishing 12th overall out of 44 runners in 20:18.5. Janneke Baks was next for the Knights, taking 18th in 21:18.1, just edging out teammate Skylar Francis, who placed 19th in 21:20.4. A little under a minute later Meagan Speizer took 24th in 22:10.0, and Elizabeth Kraynak's 23:56.3 run, good enough for 29th, close out Clarkson's team score.
